Bank accounts
Bank account payments are the default method for sending funds to recipients.
They transfer funds directly to a recipient’s bank account using local payment networks where available, or SWIFT where domestic routing is not supported.
How bank account payments work
A bank account payment is:
- Initiated from a Vitesse account
- Validated against country and route-specific rules
- Routed through a domestic payment network or SWIFT
- Tracked through the payment lifecycle until completion
The platform selects the most appropriate payment route based on the destination country and currency.
Payment routes
Bank account payments use one of the following routes:
- Domestic payment networks (for example FPS, ACH, SEPA, PIX)
- SWIFT for cross-border payments or where domestic coverage is not available
Domestic routes typically deliver faster settlement and avoid intermediary deductions. SWIFT provides global coverage where domestic routing cannot be used.
Data requirements
Each payment must include recipient bank details appropriate to the destination country and route.
Examples include:
- Sort code and account number (UK)
- IBAN and SWIFT/BIC
- Routing number (US)
Required fields vary by country, currency, and route type. See Rules.
When to use bank account payments
Use bank account payments when:
- Paying claimants or vendors directly to a bank account
- Sending funds domestically or internationally
- Faster delivery is required compared to cheque
