Understand payment status events
The Payment Status panel shows a timeline of events that track the progress of a single payment. These events are grouped into four stages, each reflecting a key phase in the payment lifecycle.
If a stage fails, the label shows the failure (for example, Processing failed) and no further stages appear. The payment will not proceed if a step fails at any stage.
Initiated
This stage shows when the system creates and validates the payment request.
- Payment request created
The system receives a request to create a payment. - Payment request validation passed
The system checks the request for completeness and correctness, ensuring required fields are present and valid. - Payment request initiated
The system stages the payment. At this point, the system has not contacted the recipient.
Payee Capture
This stage tracks the recipientās activity through the Payee Choice journey.
- Journey started
The Payee Choice process begins when the Payment request is initiated. - Call to action email sent
The system sends the branded email with a secure payment link. - Email delivered / opened / link clicked
These events confirm that the recipient received and engaged with the email. If there's no link click, the recipient likely hasn't started the process. - Last time verified
The recipient verifies their identity, for example using an SMS code or passphrase. - Journey completed
The recipient submits their payment details and completes the secure Payee Choice online form. - Confirmation email sent
The system sends a confirmation email to the recipient.
Processed
This stage shows how the system processes and delivers the payment.
- Processing started
The system begins processing the payment using the submitted recipient details. - Transaction submitted
The system sends the payment to the payment network or banking partner. - Transaction succeeded
The receiving bank confirms that it accepted the payment.
Payment request succeeded
This stage confirms that the payment request completed successfully. No further action is required.
